Thrust Areas & Way Forward for India’s Energy Efficiency Path 2020

1. Climate change target – Improving energy intensity by 3% on an annual basis by 2030, will contribute to around 50% emission reduction for our NDC commitments.
2. Industrial sector coverage under the programme is over 60% with a target to reach 75% by 2024 – Energy Intensive sectors like Iron & Steel, Thermal Power Plants, Refineries, Petrochemical to save 21 million TOE.
3. MSME sector to be new focus area with schemes to deploy energy efficient technologies in process – Cold Chain sector to be one of the key area.
4. Promoting use of more energy efficient appliances with special thrust on Refrigerators and ACs – India to transform market for most energy efficient ACs by 2024.
5. Aggressive policy push to adopt Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) in municipalities / ULBs – ECBC to be implemented in 100 municipalities / ULBs by 2024.
6. Transport sector consumption to be minimized through fuel efficiency norms for Passenger Cars, HDVs, LCVs and Tractors.
